Black bass were introduced to Sardinia as early as the 19th century. With its warm climate, abundant baitfish and plenty of crayfish, it has become an established population, and today you can experience bass fishing in the same way as in the USA and Japan, just a few hours' flight from home.
The trip at a glance
- Destination: a lake in Sardinia with a 4-star hotel and pool
- Best time: April, June and September to October
- Species: black bass, mostly 0.5 to 2 kilos
- Method: jon boats with electric motors, local guide on the first day
- Groups: 1 to 5 people
- Travel: fly to Costa Smeralda and approximately 40 minutes by car
The lake
The lake is medium-sized, with a maximum depth of around 10 metres, but most of the fishing takes place in shallow water, at depths of 0–5 metres. The bass hunt along rocky structures, shoals, fallen trees and in sheltered bays. Many fish weigh between 0.5 and 2 kilos, and several fish over both 2 and 3 kilos are caught each year.

The boats
You fish from jon boats with electric motors and aluminum boats with casting decks, making it easy to move stealthily along the edges and cast close to structure. On the first day of fishing, you have a local guide who goes over the lake and the techniques that are working at the time. After that, you fish on your own, and if you would like a guide for more days, this can be arranged.
The season
- April marks the start of the really good bass season. The water warms up, the fish become more active and stay in shallow water.
- June offers active fishing in warm water. It can get very hot in the middle of the day, so we prefer to fish in the morning and evening and take it easy by the pool in between.
- September and October are the most comfortable months. The temperature is more pleasant, you can fish from morning to evening, and the water is still warm.

The hotel and food
You stay at a 4-star hotel built in traditional Sardinian style, with views of the lake, a pool, and air-conditioned rooms. The restaurant uses ingredients from nearby farms. You eat breakfast at the hotel, take the packed lunch with you out on the lake, and enjoy a set menu for dinner featuring Sardinian dishes: homemade pasta, fish, cold cuts, meat, cheese, and vegetables. Upon request, we can arrange visits to local wine and food producers.
The trip
You fly to Costa Smeralda and drive a rental car for approximately 40 minutes to the hotel. From the hotel, it is about 20 minutes to the boats. We accommodate groups of 1–5 people and are happy to tailor trips for larger groups. You can also add sea fishing for tuna and mahi-mahi.
Lures and rigs have their own guide to black bass fishing in Sardinia.
